Part II: Assessment of Class

4. What is your opinion about your own personal participation in the various summit activities? Do you feel that you have had sufficient opportunity to express your opinion?

Believe it or not I did not feel like I had enough time to persuade people to think differently. My goal was to bring people closer to the US line of thinking, and I felt like I was only partially successful.

The way that the summit was conducted made it impossible to not express your opinion. Since we were all required to make presentations and to speak in front of the class, everyone was forced to listen to everybody else's ideas. It was refreshing to hear different opinions and to be able to know other people's positions and bounce ideas off of them.

I think that I had the opportunity to present my opinion in the summit. However, I found that I achieved more when I would negotiate solely with members of other countries. If I attempted to approach with an another member of my country, there was the tendency to be pushed in the corner, especially when presenting a project to all of the other countries form my group. I think though that was something I could have worked out more within my group, but it seemed that time went so quickly and I was able to get out what I wanted to.

I feel I was able to express my opinions for the most part but I definitely could have said more, I just did not feel it was always necessary. The class was so successful because everyone could contribute a small part.

I was really happy with the level of participation I had at the summit. My country group worked out perfectly. I don't think I could have picked another partner that I would have worked better with than the one I was assigned (a rare occurrence!) I took a leadership role within my individual focus group that also allowed me a huge opportunity for participation with presentations, group work and class negotiations. I completely feel I had the opportunity to express myself.

Well, I tend to be shy when it comes to speaking in large groups so I don't think I got my opinion totally across, however towards the end of the class I got more comfortable and began to relax and talk a little more.

I felt that I participated deeply in most of the activities however there were some day when I was little lost on the understanding of what people were trying to say. I feel I have had the opportunity to express my opinion of course there were time my opinion may not been widely agreed.

I think that I actively participated in the various summit activities. Everyone has to get involved and if you don't, Professor Gautier will get you involved. She's extremely good at making sure everyone is working and no one is wasting time, a characteristic I admire in her. She also allowed the opportunity to express my opinions freely, but she might want to consider asking more questions to the class members during her lectures to get us more involved.

I feel that my personal participation was very important to the summit, as was everyone's participation. This class was based on interaction between students, cooperation between peers, and communication. I was very outspoken in class discussions, and I enjoyed the freedom of opinion that this class allowed.
