Part III: Suggestions for Improving Class
1.What activities did you enjoy the most/ find the most
valuable?
The debates, and I wished they were a little more
out of control. A little yelling and heated debate would have
been fun. Mostly because I refuse to loose.
The open discussion parts of the class and the laboratory opportunities
for independent research and presentation work were the most enjoyable
parts of the class. You can't help but feel like you accomplished
something when you have a comprehensive power point presentation
to give that has contributions by many people.
For me hands down the most beneficial activities was when we worked
with other countries to comprise and come up with an issue. When
we had reps. From each country meet and discuss black carbon or
emission trading, was of instrumental importance to coming to
a conclusion, and from there being able to actually draft something
that everyone could somewhat agree on because it included the
views of every country.
I most liked researching information about how Africa was affected
and its role in climate change. It was amazing to see the disparity
between countries.
I enjoyed lab because I got to do a lot of self- teaching.
Preparing presentations and having class debates were the most
useful aspects of the class for me. I had never created and presented
a power point before this class, and now I feel like a pro! The
discussions, in my opinion, provided for some of the most interesting
and stimulating material, as they brought together the information
that everyone was individually collecting, which turned out to
be a lot of info.
I enjoyed the web research the most. I enjoy using the internet
and anytime a class incorporates it.
I found arguing certain point's people made the most enjoyable
because it gave me the chance to test my own knowledge in subject
matters. I also loved the freedom to be able to express my own
ideas.
The part about this class that I enjoyed the most was how personal
it became. It was about getting out and understanding a problem
from within instead of chipping away at the sides. I think that
group participation and efforts are some of the most useful tactics
to solving problems that we as humans have. This characteristic
is not promoted nearly enough at UCSB. I definitely would encourage
more courses being design in the same manner as Geography 135.
I enjoyed the final summit the best. The opportunity to prepare
a final document and perfect it through tedious word choices was
fun. This was the most rewarding experience. The hard work of
preparing information and principles was the most intense and
exciting portion of the course.
