ICESS Recycling ProgramThe ICESS Recycling Program is an in-house program designed to participate with the existing UCSB recycling program. ICESS has a small ad hoc committe made up of staff and research volunteers committed to the recycling and sustainability practices approved of and adopted by both Associated Students and the UC. In addition to recycling, ICESS supports and particpates in energy conscious campus programs, including energy conservation tips such as using daylight when possible and others found on the UCSB Energy Information Page. Our 6th floor occupants also participate in alternative forms of transportation by biking to campus, taking the bus, carpooling and commuting on the Clean Air Express. If you are interested in campus transportation programs please visit Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP)/UCSB. Recycling on campus is different from the recycling you may be accustomed to in your home. Recycling in the home in most areas of Santa Barbara County is "commingled". The campus program (excluding the UCEN) is not done this way and it can be a little confusing discerning what is and is not acceptable to put in the different recycle containers. Not to fear! We will try to make it as easy and clear as possible.Comments and suggestions for ICESS Recycling can be sent to: recycle@icess.ucsb.edu To understand more about Recycling at UCSB please visit Physical Facilities Recycling Program and Associated Students Recycling at UCSB. ICESS participates in the AS Recycling program by maintaining 3 recycle containers in the kitchen. The glass, plastic and aluminum containers are routinely emptied into the AS multi-bins located on the grounds near Ellison Hall. Additionally, members of the ad hoc group maintain a separate plastic bag recycle container and a used/dead battery container. Members of the ad hoc group share responsibility for recycling plastic bags at local markets and batteries are taken to Central Stores on campus for processing. AS Recycling generously donated over 50 clip-on blue office pack recycling containers for ICESS offices and conference rooms. The blue bins are easy to use and when filled, may be emptied into the larger green bins that are routinely maintained by the Custodial Service. To recycle magazines and books ICESS maintains a bin located in the mail room. This bin is routinely taken to the bin located near the Library.ICESS recycles styrofoam peanuts. Container is located in the kitchen. ICESS recycles newspapers, Nexus anyone? Container is located in the mail room. ICESS has 2 green office pack containers located in the mailroom and in the terminal room (6704). |
